Calahorra is added each year to the European Days of Jewish Culture, a celebration that invites us to rediscover the legacy local jewish and his historical contribution to the common european heritage. Driven by the Network of jewish Quarters in Spain – Caminos de Sefarad and the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Culture and Heritage of Jews (AEPJ), these days connect to cities across the continent in an event that has as its axis the memory, the cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. The city of la rioja, which retains vestiges of its ancient jewish quarter documented since the ELEVENTH century, offers a unique setting to get closer to the past sephardic and understand its footprint in the local identity.
Held every year around the first Sunday of September, the event will feature a diverse program aligned with an annual theme common to all the participating cities, allowing you to explore different facets of jewish heritage european from contemporary approaches and cross-cutting. Beyond the specific activities of each edition, the event highlights the shared history, the role of the jewish communities in the cultural construction of Europe, and the importance of preserving, to know and to disseminate this legacy.
Calahorra becomes a meeting point between history and citizenship, where the sephardic culture revived in key present and is projected toward the future.
