Perdiguero Reservoir Leisure Area
The Perdiguero Reservoir leisure area, situated less than 3 kilometres south of Calahorra, has established itself as one of the main destinations for leisure, nature and recreation in La Rioja Baja. This area combines the scenic beauty of the reservoir with a comprehensive range of facilities designed for family fun, outdoor sports and the promotion of nature tourism.
The Perdiguero Reservoir, known as ‘El Pantano’, was built in 1855 for irrigation using water from the River Cidacos. It covers some 20 hectares and features a 2.6-kilometre route that can be explored on foot or by bike.
The area boasts abundant vegetation, including poplars, black poplars, elms and tamarisk, and a diverse range of wildlife, with birds such as the mallard and the little grebe, and fish such as carp and eels.
A space designed for leisure and outdoor activities
The leisure area was opened in July 2023. The project transformed the site into a modern and functional space, designed for people of all ages.
Its main attractions include:
- The largest wooden maze in northern Spain, measuring around 40 metres in diameter and 2 metres in height.
- Children’s play area, designed for different age groups.
- Calisthenics circuit, ideal for outdoor exercise.
- Agility area for pets, designed for the enjoyment of pets.
- Picnic areas and rest areas, perfect for gatherings with family or friends.
- Improved car parks and access points, making it easier to reach the site.
In addition, the paths surrounding the reservoir have been upgraded, with improved signage and access, as well as the areas designated for recreational fishing.
Open 24 hours a day, it is a versatile space that allows you to enjoy nature at any time: walks, sport, fishing or simply unwinding in a peaceful setting.
