The Mayor's Fountain
The Fuente del Alcalde is one of those small features of the rural landscape around Calahorra that help us understand the historical relationship between the town, water and the surrounding farmland. Situated beside one of the local farm tracks, it forms part of a landscape shaped over centuries by the use of water and by the network of irrigation channels and waterways that criss-cross the Calahorra countryside.
It is situated in a transit area between tracks, plots of land and minor watercourses. It is not a monumental or ornamental fountain, but rather a humble piece of infrastructure, linked to the day-to-day use of the land and the traditional use of water.

The Fuente del Alcalde is best understood in the context of the surrounding agricultural landscape.
