Fair Calahorra with Peppers"

Each year, Calahorra celebrates the Fair “Calahorra with Peppers”, a gastronomic event and cultural, which pays tribute to one of the most emblematic products of the garden of la rioja: the pepper, with special prominence of the appreciated pepper of the glass.

The fair is held each year at the end of September, coinciding usually the last weekend of the month. The epicenter of the activities is the Square of Satin, although the entire city is impregnated with a festive atmosphere and gastronomic.

Main activities

  • Market peppers-products and derived products
    In the Plaza of the Satin is installed, a market where local farmers and producers sell fresh peppers, roasted and preserved, in addition to other products from the vegetable garden.
  • Contest of roasted and peeled Peppers in the Crystal
    One of the most anticipated moments of the fair is to this contest, in which is displayed the skill and tradition in the preparation of peppers, from the asado to the delicate process of peeling.
  • Path skewers
    Throughout the weekend, bars and restaurants of the city offer creative tapas and dishes in which the bell pepper is the star of the show, becoming the local cuisine in a unique experience.

Fair preserves

The Fair of the Preserves is a tribute to one of the most deeply-rooted traditions of Calahorra: the development and enjoyment of the canned goods, a fundamental pillar of the local cuisine and the identity of the city.

The Fair of the Preserves is held every fall, turning to Calahorra in a showcase of food and cultures around its most characteristic products. The event takes place in different areas of the city such as the Paseo del Mercadal, the Museum of the Vegetable or downtown plazas.

    Exhibition and sale of canned vegetables, fish, meat and other products produced by local and regional companies, in an environment designed to sample and discover the quality of these foods.
  • Route skewers keeps
    The bars and restaurants of the city are involved in offering tapas-made from canned goods.
  • Guided tours theme
    Tours cultural iconic spaces such as the Museum of the Vegetable, old factories and areas linked to the tradition of canning of Calahorra, which allow you to know the historical importance of this sector.
  • Lectures and conference
    Presentations are informative about the history and evolution of the canning industry in The Region, highlighting its impact on the local economy and the projection of Calahorra as a reference food.
  • Workshops and showcookings
    participatory Activities to learn how to prepare traditional canning and use them in the kitchen today, in the hands of experts and chefs in the area.
  • Tastings
    Spaces in which visitors can try different preserves, discovering the unique flavours and new ways to enjoy these products.
